Almost twice as many cases of chicken pox had been reported to the Jefferson County Health Department by the end of February than typically appear by that part of the year, according to the agency's director.
"We've had a fair number of cases," Dennis Diehl said. "So far this year, we've had 38 cases. I would say a more normal number is, probably, 20, by (the last week of February)."
Diehl stipulated that almost all of the chicken pox incidences reported have been verified through medical care provider analysis, not testing.
