KSDK -- Fire crews battled a two-alarm brush
fire at Lone Elk Park Friday afternoon. Eureka fire officials said the
fire forced park officials to evacuate the park.
The fire began just before 2:30 p.m. near I-44 and Highway 141 in
Valley Park. At least five acres burned. Lindsey Pirtle and Tyra
Roberts were enjoying a beautiful Friday afternoon in the park.
"We pulled up to the gate and saw a bunch of smoke and got out of
the car and looked down and there was a huge forest fire," Roberts
said.
Pirtle added, "A fire truck showed up while we were there and they
sent two guys down there with rakes. But they ended up coming right
back up and they said that if we liked our cars we should move. The
fire wasn't on the trees; it was mostly on the ground, the leaves and
stuff."
